This simple Semmelschmarrn is a classic Austrian dessert or sweet main dish, perfect for using up stale rolls or white bread. The bread is soaked in a mixture of milk and eggs and then pan-fried in butter until crispy and golden brown.

Anleitung
Cut the rolls into roughly 1 cm (½-inch) slices or small cubes.
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla, and salt.
Add the bread pieces and let them soak for about 20 minutes so they absorb the liquid. Stir in raisins if you like.
Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the soaked bread mixture and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and lightly crispy.Tip: Sprinkle a little sugar on top while it cooks — it caramelizes and adds a lovely crunch and sweetness.
Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, alongside applesauce, fruit compote, or your favorite topping.
