Apfelkren Recipe (Horseradish Sauce with Apples)
Apfelkren is an easy Horseradish Sauce with grated apples or apple sauce.
Zutaten
- 2 apples alternatively 1 cup of apple sauce
- 4 tablespoons horseradish
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
Anleitung
- Peel apples (optionally) and grate using a food processor attachment with fine holes or a hand grater.
- Place in a bowl and mix with apple cider vinegar.
- Peel about 3 inches (~6 cm) of the horseradish root with a peeler. (Or more if you like it spicier).
- Grate finely with a grater.
- Beware of the pungency: you may want to cover your nose with a cloth and your eyes with protection glasses.
- Mix the horseradish to the apples.
- Cover and store in the refrigerator until serving.
Notizen
If you want to use apple sauce instead: mix 1 cup of applesauce with about 4 tablespoons of grated horseradish for about 4 servings. Depending on how spicy you like it or how fresh the horseradish root is. Additional acidity of vinegar or lemon juice is not necessary.
