Cabbage Salad with Caraway Seeds

Classic version of a simple Austrian & German cabbage salad with caraway seeds, apple cider vinegar, oil and a little sugar.

Zutaten

  • 500 g white cabbage about ½ a head
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • oil to taste
  • 2 tablespoon sugar or honey optional

Anleitung

  • Cut the cabbage into very fine strips and mix with the salt in a bowl. Leave to rest for 1 hour.
  • Squeeze out the water and drain.
  • Bring about ½ cup of water to the boil with the apple cider vinegar and caraway seeds (and optionally the sugar). Pour over the cabbage and mix well.
  • Season with oil and a little more vinegar or more sugar, to taste.

Notizen

Neutral oil such as rapeseed oil, sunflower oil or corn oil is usually used, but I also like olive oil.
